ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of procurement practices on the performance of selected warehouses operated by supermarkets with focus on Specific objectives: to determine the effect of E-procurement, Procurement planning, supplier management and Ethical practices on the performance of warehouses operated by Tuskys supermarket in Kenya. The study used Resource Based Theory, Theory of innovation, Game Theory and Agency Theory. The target population of this study comprised of 5 top management, 15 supervisors and 65 junior staff (storekeepers and clerks) working in Tuskys supermarket warehouse. Census approach was used to select the respondents. Data gathered from correctly filled questionnaires were coded, tabulated and analyzed using SPSS version 22 by both descriptive statistics which included mean and standard deviation to capture the characteristics of the variables under study. Inferential statistics were also be used to analyze the relationship of the dependent and the independent variable. The results of correlation and regression analysis showed that e-procurement, procurement planning, supplier management and ethical practices had a positive and significant relationship with performance of warehouses operated by supermarkets in Kenya. The study concluded that all the independent variables (e-procurement, procurement planning, supplier management and ethical practices) were key in enhancing the performance of warehouses operated by supermarkets in Kenya.
