ABSTRACT

 

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of cultural diversity management on job satisfaction. A case study of International Planned Parenthood Federation Africa Region, an international Non-governmental organization. The study investigated effects of cultural diversity awareness, cultural diversity Communication competencies and cross-cultural training on job satisfaction in International Planned Parenthood Federation Africa Region (IPPFAR). Case study research design was adopted to manage research objectives with census sampling being adopted to sample individuals since the population was small comprising of 64 staff working at the IPPFAR offices in Nairobi. Data was collected using questionnaire with both closed and open ended questions to collect desired information. Focused grouped discussion and interviews were adopted. Responses from the questionnaires were tabulated, coded and processed by use of a computer Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 21 for analysis and presentation was done using Microsoft Excel 2013. Descriptive statistics such as frequencies, percentages and mean are used for the ranking on the likert scale. The study established existence of a strong positive correlation between job satisfaction and cross-cultural training, cultural diversity communication strategies and cultural diversity awareness. The study also established that cultural mentorship programs, regular role plays, reward systems for individuals with non-cultural conflicts and establishing cultural diversity department has a strong association with job satisfaction in culturally diverse workforce p < 0.05. The study concludes that to ensure job satisfaction in culturally diverse workforce, organizations should adopt cultural diversity awareness, cultural diversity communication competencies and cross-cultural training among staffs.
