ABSTRACT
The study aimed at establishing the role of green Supply Chain Practices on performance of the ministry of industrialization and enterprise development in Kenya. The study specifically aimed at establishing the influence of material sourcing, green packaging, waste management systems and eco-design manufacturing on performance of the ministry of industrialization and enterprise development in Kenya. A descriptive research design was employed in this study. The study relied on primary data collected by administering 135 questionnaires where 108 were filled and returned. Cronbach alpha was above 0.07 indicating that the data was reliable. Pearson correlation was applied in the study to establish the relationship between the study variables. and it was found that material sourcing, green packaging, waste management systems and eco-design manufacturing have a significant association with the performance of the ministry of industrialization and enterprise development in Kenya. Regression analysis indicated that material sourcing, green packaging, waste management system and eco-design and performance of ministry of industrialization and enterprise development have a positive significant association as shown by (r=.313, p=0.001), (r=.329, p=0.000), (r=.345, p=0.000) and (r=.295, p=0.000) respectively. The study recommends the adoption of material sourcing during production as it allows the reduction, reuse and recycling of materials in purchasing process. It also enables the acquisition of services and products that minimizes impacts on environment. The ministry should go for green packaging. This therefore points out the need to cooperate with vendors in standardizing packaging, encouraging and adopting returnable packaging methods. The study recommends the adoption of effective waste management techniques. This requires the organization to be able to reverse normal logistics flow to customers from suppliers in order to facilitate location of inventory deemed unsuitable by customers and taken back to suppliers in a timely and cost effective manner. The study recommends the implantation of eco-design manufacturing. By promoting eco design, a firm is in a position to integrate environment aspects in product design and development, which leads to a continuation in improvement of performance of the environmental entire product through technological innovation.
